Joseph Edward Brennan ( Eng. Joseph Edward Brennan ; b. November 2, 1934, Portland , Maine , USA ) - American politician- Democrat , 70th governor of the state of Maine . He is currently authorized by the Federal Maritime Commission.

Biography
Brennan was born in Portland , Maine . He studied at Boston College , University of Maine Law School and Peabody Law School. In 1965 he was elected to the House of Representatives of Maine. Prior to that, he worked as Cumberland County Attorney. In 1971, he lost the election. In 1973-1975 he was the senator of the state of Maine. In 1974, he ran for Governor of Maine, but lost to George Mitchell, the future Senator . He also appointed Brennan in 1975 as state attorney general. In 1978 he ran again, and this time he won. Re-elected in 1982 In 1986 he ran for the House of Representatives from his home district. Won, gaining 53% of the vote.
In 1990, he tried to re-elect, but lost, as he did again in 1994. In 1996, he tried to take a vacant seat in the Senate , but Susan Collins won the election.
In 1999, President Clinton appointed Brennan as Commissioner for the Federal Maritime Commission, a small independent agency that regulates US trade relations with foreign countries.
