Biography

Born on April 4, 1861 in the village of Starochukurovo of the Tatyshlinsky volost of the Birsky district of the Orenburg province (now the Tatyshlinsky district ). Came from the Bashkir noble family of the Kyikovs .

He studied at his father's madrasah, as well as at the madrasahs of the cities of Kazan and Kasimov.

In 1882-1889 he served in the ranks of the tsarist army, and after demobilization he moved to the village of Stary Kurdym of his native volost. Here Garifulla Mukhametgalievich opens the Jadidist madrasah and was the head of the Muslim clergy of Birsk district.

In September 1918 he was executed by the Red Army.

Creative activity

He prepared and published two books, one of which is a collection of poems - “Poetic book for children, or Rhymes for children” (in the original “Diwani Sabyan, Yeki Kafiyaty Sibyan”, 1903), and the other is dedicated to the life and work of Gali Sokoroy - “Source satisfaction, or the Khezretovsky spring in Kurdymovo "(in the original" Gain Errisa, Yakei Kurdemdeg Hezrat Shishmes ", 1900) [2] .

He advocated secular education of children and teaching in his native Bashkir language . He wrote the history of the Bashkirs, which in his years of life was not published and partially preserved in manuscript form. In the periodical press and the collection “Language Competition“ Shura “” he published several educational articles, and in one of them for the first time in national journalism he raised the question of protecting the legitimate rights of the Bashkir language. But nevertheless, most of the written heritage of the enlightener remained in manuscript form (for example, “Bashkirs”, “Public Order”, “The Genealogy of the Bashkirs of the Yumran-Tabyn Volost” and others). In the newly found manuscripts, one of the leading places is occupied by the problem of patrimonial Bashkir lands. The author bitterly writes about the colonization of Bashkiria, mentions Russian land laws published in 1818, 1823 and 1865, and reveals their reactionary nature, for example, regarding the territory occupied by the Bashkirs from the Irekte tribe, he writes [4] :

“Our relatives - the Iraqis from the current Minzelinsky district, with the help of neighboring clans, also received a letter of land ownership from Russian rulers. The letter was compiled on January 16, 1817, printed and included in the copybook “Mezhavaya book” in August 1837. ”

In the first decade of the 20th century, G. Kiikov conducted a comprehensive archaeographic survey of individual villages in the northern part of Bashkortostan. [4] His manuscript titled “On the Bashkirs. Translation from Russian ”contains a lot of reliable historical information in which he writes about the records of Arab travelers Ahmed Ibn Fadlan , Idrisi , Ibn Sagid and Dimashka about the Bashkirs and describes the borders of ancient Bashkiria .
