Since 1992, he has been a member of the Res Publica party , and after merging with the party, Isamaaliyt is an active member of the IRL union. In 2004, he headed the electoral list of the Res Publica party in the European Parliament elections , but was not elected [1] . The party gained only 6.7% of the total number of votes in the election [2] . The election result led the party to disappear from the political scene of the country. However, this did not prevent Reinsal from becoming party leader in 2012. He left the post in 2015.

Statements

On July 14, 2012 in Kuressaare, at the rally of the “Union of Freedom Fighters”, as the veterans of the 20th Estonian SS Division are called in Estonia, Reinsalu expressed appreciation to them and stated that their “contribution, which was based on the principle of legal succession, was crucial for Republic of Estonia and at the same time saved the honor of our people ” [6] . This statement caused outrage both within Estonia and abroad [7] . Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said: “ Carrying out events aimed at glorifying the former SS men and local collaborators cannot be regarded as the deliberate planting of pro-Nazi sentiments in Estonian society and frank mockery at the memory of those who, at the cost of their lives, saved the world from the“ brown plague “. His gratitude to the fascist minions for “saving the honor of the Estonian people” is another confirmation of the purposeful myth-making of official Tallinn regarding the events of the Second World War ” [7] .
