Sergei Vasilievich Baykov ( 1772 - July 19, 1848 ) - Russian military leader, major general , participant in the Napoleonic Wars and the Russo-Turkish War (1828-1829) [1] .

Biography
He was born in 1772 in the family of the military Vasily Sergeyevich Baykov and Anna Ivanovna Baykova - the pupil of the chief-music master Elagin .
Participated in the battles of Gutstadt , Heilsberg , Friedland , was awarded the golden weapon “For Courage”.
Baykov met the Patriotic War with the rank of headquarters captain of the Life Guards of the Finland Regiment. November 19, 1812 promoted to captain.
For the battle of Borodino, Bikes was awarded the Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree with diamonds.
When the French army retreated from Russia, an avant-garde detachment led by Baykov captured the wagon train of Napoleonic Marshal Davout , in which valuable documents and the rod of the marshal himself were discovered. After the Battle of Krasnoye on November 8, 1812, Baikov met with Field Marshal Kutuzov. He instructed Baykov to take the report and the captured rod to St. Petersburg. On November 14, in the Winter Palace, Baikov delivered a report from Kutuzov and a marshal's baton to Alexander I. The tsar awarded Baykov with the St. George Cross of the IV degree.
Baykov participated in the siege of the Modlin fortress , in the battles of Lutzen and Bautzen , for which he received the Order of St. Vladimir IV degree with a bow, and later - the medal " For the capture of Paris ." Then Baikov participated in the Russian-Turkish war (1828-1829), was seriously wounded in the head and was treated for six months in the Kiev hospital, then again left for the front.
He commanded a regiment and brigade, distinguished himself in the battles for the fortress of Silistria and Shumla , was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the III degree and received the rank of Major General.
After the war, he retired and settled in Kiev - he lived in Pechersk in his own house, and across the Lybid river he acquired a farm on the outskirts - between the modern Baikov cemetery and Protasov Yar tract. This area in Kiev began to be called Baikov farm .
S.V.Baikov died on June 19, 1848 and was buried in St. Petersburg. Nicholas I transferred his estate in Kiev to the Military Engineering Department.
Memory
Today in Kiev he is named after: Baykov Yar, Baykova Gora, Baykova Street, Baikovo Cemetery.
