Biography
Born December 23, 1916 in the village of Makeyevka , now the Varvinsky district of Ukraine, in a peasant family. Ukrainian .
In 1932 he graduated from a seven-year school, teaching courses and entered the Nezhinsky Institute of Social Education, which he graduated in 1935. From 1935 to 1940 he worked as a teacher in high school. In mid-1940 he was appointed director of the Lyubeshovsky Pedagogical College of the Volyn Region. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1941.
Member of the partisan movement in Ukraine during the Great Patriotic War, lieutenant colonel .
In 1943 he was placed at the disposal of the representative office of the Ukrainian headquarters of the partisan movement at the headquarters of the Southwestern Front. Since August 1943, at the head of a partisan detachment, he participated in a partisan struggle against the Nazis in the territory of the Poltava, Chernihiv regions and Transcarpathia.
After the war, the People’s Council of Transcarpathian Ukraine entrusted Tkanko with the leadership of the newly created police and people's squad. Subsequently, he headed the regional department of internal affairs.
He later returned to teaching. He was the rector of the Chernivtsi and Konotop pedagogical institutes. From 1953 to 1979 - rector of the , professor , candidate of historical sciences.
He lived in the city of Cherkasy. He died on April 18, 2006 [1] . He was buried in Cherkasy.
Rewards
- By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 4, 1944, for skillfully guiding the partisans' military operations when crossing the Dnieper Red Army and showing courage and heroism, Alexander Tkanko was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 2648) ) [2] .
- He was awarded the Order of the October Revolution , two Orders of the Red Banner , the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky of the 1st degree, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Order of the Badge of Honor , as well as medals.
Memory
- In 2006, a memorial plaque was installed on the building of Cherkasy National University of Tkanko.
- In Cherkasy, traditional athletics competitions are held, "Memorial to the Hero of the Soviet Union, Professor Tkanko Alexander Vasilievich" [3] .
