Gorely - an active volcano , located in the south of Kamchatka , belongs to the East Kamchatka volcanic belt. It has a large long-lived shield eruptive center, which retains eruptive activity at the present time. It consists of 5 overlapping stratovolcanoes , which are located in the caldera, whose diameter is 10x13 km. Composed by andesites and dacites . It was formed approximately in the period 38-40 thousand years ago. The volume of erupted material then amounted to about 100 km³. The maximum thickness of solidified lavas is 200 m. It consists of 11 cones and about 30 craters . Some craters are filled with acid or fresh water. In the early Holocene there was a plentiful exit of lavas. About 6,000 years ago, the type of eruptions was explosive. Beginning in the 15th century, volcanic eruptions have a moderate character with the release of lava to the surface and intermittent explosive eruptions. Phreatic eruptions were also present. In the modern period, the volcano erupted more than 50 times. Eruptions had a different nature, from a moderate outpouring of volcanic lavas to explosive ones with the release of a large amount of ash, gases and fragments of volcanic rocks to the surface. From time to time, eruptions were so strong that volcanic ash reached the waters of the Pacific Ocean and nearby settlements such as Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky , Nachiki , Paratunka , particles of volcanic activity rose to a height of more than 3 km. The lake in the caldera appeared in the period 1978-1979. Also, from this time on, constant activity of fumaroles in the craters of the volcano has been observed. The last time the volcano behaved actively in the summer of 2010. Then the level of the lake, which was formed in 1978, began to fall, soil fluctuations occurred, the temperature of fumaroles increased, there were significant emissions of vapors and gas. The decline in activity of the volcano occurred in November 2010. There are currently no data on volcanic activity.

In its structure clearly stand out:
- pre-caldera building - Pra-Gorely volcano (diameter 20-25 km);
- caldera (diameter ~ 12 km);
- thick ignimbrite mass (volume ~ 100 km³);
- a complex of slag cones of post-caldera volcanism;
- ridge-shaped modern building - Young Gorely (the top is crowned by 3 large merged cones with 11 craters superimposed on each other);
- a complex of modern side cones (about 40) on the slopes of the Young Gorely volcano.
