In the Red Army since August 1941. In 1942 he graduated from the Tashkent Military Infantry School and in the fall of 1942 arrived at the Stalingrad Front . He participated in the environment of the Stalingrad fascist group. As part of the 51st army of the newly formed Southern Front in January-February 1943, the platoon commander, Lieutenant Ivanovsky, liberated many of the settlements of the Rostov region .
In February 1943, the division in which Ivanovsky served, which soon became the 108th Guards Rifle Division, reached the Mius River , where the enemy created a powerful, deeply echeloned defense. Here the division was transferred to the structure of the 44th Army of the Southern Front. In March 1943 Ivanovsky was appointed commander of a rifle company and received the rank of guard senior lieutenant.
In August 1943, Soviet troops, breaking through the enemy defenses on the Seversky Donets and Mius , began the liberation of Donbass. Breaking down the resistance of the enemy, they resolutely moved west. For 40 days, the troops of the Southern Front fought 300 kilometers and entered the Molochnaya River .
On all this thorny path, the fighters of the 311th Guards Rifle Regiment always saw the guard captain Ivanovsky in the most difficult parts of the battlefield. Being already the deputy commander of the battalion, Ivanovsky appeared where it was required to inspire the soldiers and lead them forward by personal example. For the able leadership of the unit during the offensive, Ivanovsky was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky .
At the turn of the Molochnaya River, the Nazis created a solid defense - this was the most fortified section of the Eastern Wall , covering Northern Tavria and approaches to the Crimea. At the end of September 1943, Soviet troops launched the Melitopol operation to break through the defenses of the enemy and liberate the city of Melitopol .
On September 30, 1943, during the fighting, the enemy managed to stop the rifle battalion of the 311st Guards Rifle Regiment in the area of Voroshilovka - Popasnaya settlements. The company under the heavy fire of the enemy lay down. Created a critical situation. Then, the captain Ivanovsky of the guards reached the advanced company, which stopped at the Chervony farm - now the village of Kokhanoi, Tokman district, Zaporizhia region. Assessing the situation, he raised the fighters and broke into a strong point. For the company went the rest of the unit. In hot battle, the battalion knocked out the enemy from Voroshilovka (now Pokrovskoye ) and entrenched there. A serious breach was made in the defense of the enemy.
The Nazis could not accept this loss. They launched several counterattacks that were repulsed by the battalion. Then the enemy threw heavy tanks into battle. To the position where the guard was captain Ivanovsky, quickly walked "tiger." Ivanovsky threw an anti-tank grenade under the chassis and stopped the car. The flames engulfed her. But the captain himself was seriously wounded. Behind the first was another tank. And guard Captain Ivanovsky found the strength to take a bunch of grenades and rushed under the second tank ...
The feat that the captain Ivanovsky made to the guard in front of his subordinates raised the fighters to the attack. The battalion that day successfully completed the task. The offensive under Melitopol continued. October 23, 1943 the city was liberated.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 1, 1943, for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command on the front of the fight against the German fascist invaders and the courage and heroism of the guard shown to this, captain Boris Andreyevich was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
Hero was buried in a mass grave in the village of Pokrovsky Tokmakovsky district, Zaporozhye region.
He was awarded the Order of Lenin, Alexander Nevsky.
In the city of Namangan of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where the Hero lived before the war, a bust and a memorial plaque were installed;
By order of the USSR Minister of Defense B. A. Ivanovsky, he was forever enlisted in the lists of the 4th company of the Tashkent Higher Combined-Arms Command School, which he graduated in 1942.
