Methanohalobium evestigatum (lat.) - a species of archaea from the Methanosarcinaceae family of the order Methanosarcinales [2] . As of June 2017, the only one in the genus Methanohalobium [2] .

In the same study, the closest relatives of the strain with decrypted genomes were identified: Methanosarcina acetivorans , Methanosarcina barkeri , Methanococcoides burtonii , Methanosaeta concilii , Methanohalophilus mahii , Methanosarcina mazei , Methanosaeta thermophila , Methanosalsum zhil .
