It starts in the southern part of the Slovenian Hill (Slawno), 50 m from the bank of the Volkhov and runs along a straight line to the Znamensky Monastery ( Znamensky Lane ). Length - 730 m.
The street appeared at the end of the XVIII century as a result of the implementation of the plan of 1778 for the redevelopment of Novgorod. In the XIX — XX centuries. Big Ilinsky was called. On the plan of the 1920s - 1930s. designated as Ilinskaya . On January 9, 1964, by the decision of the Novgorod Executive Committee, together with the northern section (the former Voskresenskaya — present-day Krasilova ) was renamed Krasilova Street .
On September 12, 1991, the section of the street from the beginning to Znamensky Lane was given the modern name.
Built with private houses. On Znamenskaya there are the churches of Elijah the Prophet on Slavna , Peter and Paul on Slavna , Philip the Apostle , the residence of the Novgorod bishop .
