Legends
In the I-VI centuries, according to legend, the surrounding area was kept in fear by Kulobr - a huge dragon-like reptile. Born in Vaucluse, Veran of Cavaillon , bishop of Cavaillon, expelled the monster at the end of the 6th century [3] .
One of the most beautiful legends explaining the variable level of the Vaucluse spring was outlined by the poet Frederic Mistral : “Once the fountain fairy adopted the image of a beautiful maiden. She took the wandering old man of the minstrel by the hand and led him through the waters of Vaucluse to the underground meadow, which had seven holes covered by seven huge diamonds. “Do you see these diamonds? The fairy asked. “When I raise the seventh diamond, the spring rises to the roots of a fig tree, drinking water once a year” [1] .
