London Luton Airport , opened in 1938, is one of the main airports in Britain. Also in the city is the University of Bedfordshire .

The city has long been known for the production of hats. Luton is also famous for the carnival, traditionally held during bank holidays. It is the largest one-day carnival in Europe.

History

Transformed into a unitary unit on April 1, 1997 from the area of ​​the former non-metropolitan county of Bedfordshire .

Geography

It covers an area of ​​43 km² and borders in the south, west and north with the unitary unit Central Bedfordshire , in the east with the ceremonial county of Hertfordshire .
