Biography

Vasily Kazubsky was born in 1906 in the village of Titovo (now the Yelninsky district of the Smolensk region) into a poor peasant family [1] [2] . In 1918-1924 he studied at the second-level school in the village of Pokrovsky, in the former estate of the landowner Montitsky. Since October 1924 he worked as secretary of the Marhotkinskaya volost cell of the Komsomol [1] [3] . After graduating from the red teacher training courses (1924) [2] , he worked as a teacher, then as an inspector of the district (1930-1932) [2] ; since 1932 - in the Korobetskaya secondary school of the Yelninsky district (chemistry and biology teacher, head teacher, director) [1] [2] [4] . In 1941 he graduated from the three courses of the correspondence faculty of Smolensk Pedagogical Institute [1] [2] .

With the outbreak of war, he directed the construction of defensive lines in the upper reaches of the Ugra and Desna [1] . In September 1941 he was drafted into the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army by the Yelninsky District Military Commissariat , and the rank of junior political officer of the 252nd regiment of the NKVD border troops participated in battles on the Western Front [1] [2] . In October 1941, being surrounded by Vyazma, he was captured, but managed to escape a few days later. He returned to his native places, established contact with local underground party organs and soon organized a partisan detachment named after Sergey Lazo (from February 1942 he was transformed into a partisan regiment) and was elected its commander (commissar - Andrei Fedorovich Yudenkov) [1] [5] ; commanded a detachment (regiment) from January to December 1942 [2] .

During the years of World War II, the partisan regiment grew significantly in number and totaled 7 battalions . In just 4 months of 1943, the Kazubsky regiment destroyed 3210 enemy soldiers and officers, captured a large number of trophies, including artillery, mortars , machine guns , and rifles. Kazubsky personally led all the actions of his regiment. The regiment occupied and firmly held an area of ​​40 thousand square kilometers, while conducting continuous battles with the invaders. For the able leadership of his regiment, Kazubsky was awarded the Order of Lenin [5] . From December 1942 to March 1943, he was the senior assistant to the head of the intelligence department of the Western headquarters of the partisan movement; from March 1943 to January 1944, he was also the head of the personnel department; from January to October 1944 - deputy chief of the Smolensk regional headquarters of the partisan movement [2] .

In October 1944, with the rank of lieutenant colonel [1] he was demobilized and returned to his native places. He was the secretary of the Dorogobuzh district committee of the CPSU (b) , then worked as the head of the department of schools and universities of the regional party committee (January 1945 - November 1947), authorized in the Smolensk region Council for Religious Cults under the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR (November 1947) [1] [2 ] ] . He died after a serious long illness on January 10, 1958 [2] [4] [6] . He was buried at the Blade cemetery in Smolensk [1] [2] .
