Bradford [1] [2] ( English Bradford ; English pronunciation : i / ˈ b r æ d f ər d / ) is a city in England , in West Yorkshire . Located 14 kilometers west of Leeds , and 26 kilometers north-west of Wakefield . Bradford became a municipal district in 1847, and a city in 1897. After the reform of local government in 1974 received the status of the city .

Content
History
Bradford became known in the XIX century as an international center for textile production, especially wool . The city arose as a result of the economic upturn during the industrial revolution , and among the first industrial centers it quickly became the “wool capital of the world”. Bradford has a beautiful Victorian architecture .
The textile sector in Bradford has declined since the mid-20th century. Since this time, Bradford has become a tourist city.
Demographics
According to the 2001 UK census, Bradford had a population of 293,277 people, with a population density of 4,560 people per square kilometer. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. According to the census, of the total population of Bradford, 69.3% (203,240) were white, 26.1% (76,545) were Asians, and 1.3% (3,812) were black.
Education
Bradford University [3] , which has more than 10,000 students, received the Royal Charter in 1966, but has been dating back to the 1860s, when it was founded as the Bradford School of Weaving, Design and Construction. The university currently covers a wide range of disciplines, including optometry , medicine , archeology and modern languages.
Religion
In the 2001 census, the proportion of the population belonging to Christians was 60.14%, while 16.08% identified themselves as Muslims , 1.02% Sikhs and 0.95% Hindus. 13.3% were defined as having no religion, and 8.1% did not indicate their religious affiliation. The percentage of Jews, Buddhists and other religions was less than 0.5% of the city’s population.
