Biography
The early years
Cynthia Blanche Curzon was born on August 23, 1898 in the Curzon Manor House, Kedleston Hall , in the county of Derbyshire . She was the second daughter of the publicist and statesman Marquis George Curzon (1859–1925) and his wife , nee Leiter (1870–1906). She had two sisters: (1896–1966) and (1904–1995) [2] .
Marriage
For the first time, information about Curzon’s relationship with politician and baronet Oswald Mosley appeared in early 1920 [3] . Against their marriage, George Curzon initially objected, believing that Mosley would marry Cynthia for selfish ends [2] . However, on May 11, 1920, Cynthia Curzon married Mosley [4] . Their wedding was attended by guests such as George V , Maria Tekskaya , Leopold III and Astrid of Sweden [2] .
Three children were born in the marriage: Vivienne Elizabeth (February 25, 1921 - August 26, 2002), (born June 25, 1923) and Michael (born April 25, 1932). Nicholas subsequently became a writer. He has published several novels, as well as a biographical book about his parents.
Unlike most wives of statesmen, Lady Mosley herself was actively involved in politics [1] . In 1924, she joined the Labor Party . In 1929 she was elected as a deputy . In 1931, Mosley founded the New Party , to which his wife joined, losing his post in parliament. During the British Parliamentary elections of 1931, the New Party did not get enough votes and did not get a single seat. In 1932, Mosley founded the British Union of Fascists [1] .
Cynthia Mosley died on May 16, 1933 in London from peritonitis [1] . By this time, her husband already had a relationship with Diane Mitford [5] . After Cynthia’s death, he refused to marry Mitford for three years, but in 1936 they got married [6] .
