Ingolstadt ( German: Ingolstadt , Bav. Inglståd, Ingoiståd ) is a city in Germany , in the state of Bavaria, on the Danube River . The population is about 132,000 inhabitants ( March 31, 2015 ). The second largest city in Upper Bavaria after Munich . The sixth largest city in Bavaria after Munich, Nuremberg , Augsburg , Würzburg and Regensburg . In 1989, the population of the city reached 100,000 inhabitants.

History
For the first time, the name Ingoldesstadt was mentioned in a letter about the division of land between the sons of Charlemagne on February 6, 806. In the 13th century, Ingolstadt received city status. From 1392 to 1447 - the capital of the Duchy of Bavaria-Ingolstadt .
In 1472, the first university in Bavaria was founded in the city, which later became the center of the counter-reformation . Luther's main opponent in religious disputes, Johann Eck, was the rector of this university. In 1776, Adam Weishaupt , Dean of the Faculty of Law, founded the Order of the Illuminati . The university closed in 1800.
On April 23, 1516, Ingolstadt proclaimed a law on the “purity” of beer ( Reinheitsgebot ). Only three components, according to him, can be in real beer: water , hops and barley . It is the oldest food law in the world and still in force. [5]
In 1549, the Jesuits were called to the city. The Ingolstadt Center administered all the Jesuits of southern Germany. Since the XVI century, the city has become the largest fortress in the region.
MN Tukhachevsky , the future Soviet marshal, and Charles de Gaulle , the future president of France , were serving their sentences here in a prison camp in the years of the First World War .
From January to April 1945, Ingolstadt (including the historical center) was subjected to regular bombing of the Allies .

Russian-speaking Ingolstadt
Ingolstadt is home to many Russian-speaking, mostly German immigrants and their families. There are Russian shops, organizations and interest clubs. In all large (and in most small) stores and enterprises there are Russian-speaking personnel.
The city operates the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Protection of the Virgin [7] (the parish was founded on October 14, 1945) and the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (run by the ROCA ).
Since November 8, 1995, the city has been a twin city of the Central Administrative District of Moscow [8] .
