Smooth-blue caimans ( Latin Paleosuchus ) - a genus of crocodiles from the alligator family (Alligatoridae), the subfamily Caimaninae . They inhabit the northern part of South America , south to 20-25 ° south latitude.

Thanks to successful conservation efforts and the effective protection of smooth-faced caimans, by 1988 they were out of danger. This allowed them to be removed from the IUCN Red List . Their economic use is now strictly regulated, and trade is regulated in accordance with the provisions of Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade.
