Description
On May 17, 1894, regular train traffic began on the Mineralnye Vody – Kislovodsk section [2] .
Pyatigorsk station is a passenger. There are 4 railway tracks and 2 passenger platforms at the station. Platform No. 1 is high, underutilized, and is a sump for commuter trains connecting Kislovodsk - Pyatigorsk . Electric trains arrive at the first platform, then, waiting for the departure time, they are again moving to Kislovodsk . Platform No. 2 is the main one for passenger transportation. All other suburban electric trains, as well as long-distance trains, arrive at this platform. On the platform there is an underground passage with access to the 1st platform and to the city. The underpass is often closed due to heavy rains, so access to the station and to the city is via flooring. The platform is high with a transition to a low edge, only suburban electric trains of 6-8 sections are able to fit along the entire length of the high part of the platform.
The station has a luggage compartment. Opposite the platforms is a water tower.
After its construction, the first station building was commissioned in the spring of 1894. Then it was another one-story building. Today, Pyatigorsk station is a new two-story building built on the same site, open to passengers in 1978. The old one, which was an architectural monument, was destroyed.
