Volkova Square (formerly Vlasyevskaya Square, Theater Square) is a square in the Kirovsky district of the city of Yaroslavl in front of the building of the Fyodor Volkov Russian State Academic Theater .

Content
History
From the end of the 18th century until the middle of the 19th century, the square was divided into two parts: Vlasevskaya (a square near the church of St. Blasius , located until 1933 on the site of the modern Yaroslavl business center) and the Theater (square covered with the theater ). In this connection, from the middle of the 19th century, the square had a double name: Vlasyevskaya Square (the name was used until 1917 ) or Theater Square (until 1938 ).
On July 21, 1918, the leaders and participants of the Yaroslavl anti-communist uprising were shot on the square.
In 1938, the square was renamed into Volkov Square in connection with the 175th anniversary of the death of Fyodor Grigorievich Volkov , the founder of the first Russian public professional theater. In 1973, a monument to FG Volkov was opened in Vlasyevsky Square to the left of the Volkovsky Theater building.
