Biography
Born into a peasant family. He graduated from the 7th grade of the school [2] . Since 1934 he worked at the Nikitovsky state farm ( Konstantinovsky district of Donetsk region ).
In 1939, drafted into the Red Army . In 1941, he served as a private in the 70th separate railway battalion.
September 29, 1943, being a shooter of the 37th Guards Rifle Regiment (12th Guards Rifle Division, 61st Army , Central Front ) with the rank of corporal , among the first to cross the Dnieper in the village of Glushets ( Loyovsky district of the Gomel region ), with fire provided a crossing cover from a machine gun; in battles for expanding the bridgehead with a bunch of grenades, he destroyed the calculation of the enemy easel machine gun.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, for the exemplary performance of the command’s combat mission in the fight against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism of the guard shown, Corporal Nesterenko Danil Potapovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal (No. 1639).
In 1944 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. In 1945 - commander of a machine-gun platoon of the 236th Guards Rifle Regiment (74th Guards Lower Dnieper Division).
During the war, he participated in the Battle of Kursk , the Battle of Stalingrad , in the liberation of Donbass, the capture of Berlin (distinguished himself when crossing the inter-city water barrier - the Telt Canal ). He finished the war with the rank of lieutenant.
After being transferred to the reserve in 1946-1954, he worked at the Nikitovsky state farm (breeder, livestock brigade leader, combine operator). In 1954, on a Komsomol trip, he left for the development of virgin lands at the Dalniy state farm ( Esilsky District, Akmola Region , Kazakh SSR ). On April 26, 1954, as the foreman of the tractor brigade, he rushed to save the tractor, crossing the Zhanyspayka river. When he tried to get the car out, the engine stalled and the tractor went under water. D. Nesterenko failed to escape.
Family
Wife - Praskovya Nikiforovna, nurse of the field hospital.
Children - Raisa Danilovna and Galina Danilovna; grandchildren, great-grandson.
