Petra Roth ( German: Petra Roth ; born May 9, 1944 , Bremen ) - German politician, member of the CDU . From 1995 to mid-2012, she served as the mayor of Frankfurt am Main .

Biography

From a family of businessmen from Bremen, she received a feldsher education. In 1972 she joined the CDU. Advancing along the party line, she was elected as a deputy of the Landtag of Hesse. In 1992-1995 she headed the Frankfurt branch of the CDU. In 1995, Helmut Kohl invited Petra Roth to run for office as mayor of Frankfurt am Main. On July 5, 1995, Petra Roth became the first woman to be the head of the city of Frankfurt. In 2001, Petra Roth was elected chief mayor for a second term, and on January 28, 2007, for a third term. In 2011, Petra Roth announced her resignation from the post of mayor of Frankfurt on July 1, 2012. Her successor in the elections held on March 25, 2012 was Peter Feldman .
