Geography
The Bolshaya Rechka begins 10 km southeast of the village of Gornovoye, Troitsky District, Altai Territory. At first it winds from the source - flows to the north, west, northeast, after the village of Khomutino it takes a southwest direction, which remains almost the entire length.
The upper part of the basin lies on the Biysk-Chumysh Upland with a dense network of hollows with a swampy bottom; the steppe area is interspersed with forest areas here. In the village of Troitsk, the river reaches the border of Verkhneobsky Bor - a large forest that occupies the Ob bend. To the village of Zagainovo, the river flows along the edge of the forest, after which it goes deep into the forest. The lower part of the river basin lies in the swampy ancient valley of the Ob.
The Bolshaya Rechka flows into the Ob several branches below the villages of Volodarka and Chauzovo of the Topchikhinsky district , which are located when it branches into branches. The last tributary of the Big River - Kamyshinka - flows into its southern arm about a kilometer from the confluence with the Ob.
The river valley in the upper and middle reaches (to the village of Zagainovo) is well developed, with steep slopes 20–40 m high. In the lower reaches, the valley is practically not expressed. The floodplain is developed almost throughout, especially in the middle and lower reaches; in the lower reaches, the floodplain reaches 5 km in width and is flooded annually.
In the basin of the Big River there are 294 lakes with a total area of 28.9 km². The largest of them is Lake Bolshoy Kamyshnoye , from which the left tributary of the Kamyshinka flows.

Hydrology
The length of the river is 285 km, the basin area is 4000 km². The average annual flow, measured 112 km from the mouth near the village of Troitskoe in 1960-1998, is 4.48 m³ / s. The multi-year minimum flow rate is observed in January (2.21 m³ / s), the maximum - in April (21.66 m³ / s). During the observation period, the absolute minimum monthly flow (1.24 m³ / s) was observed in March 1990, the absolute maximum (42.4 m³ / s) - in April 1971.
The Big River freezes in mid-November, opens in early April. The thickness of ice in winter is 50–70 cm. The river does not dry out and does not freeze to the bottom. During the spring flood in April, the water level rises by 2-3 m, with rain floods - by 0.1-0.2 m.
Infrastructure
The Big River flows through the territory of Tselinnoye (a small section in the upper reaches near the village of Khomutin), the Troitsky and Topchikhinsky districts of the Altai Territory. Its basin also lies mainly within these areas, only in the lower part of the catchment area of its last tributary Kamyshenka and Bolshoi Kamyshny Lake is located in the Ust-Pristan and Bystroistok districts .
There are no large urban centers on the river, however, the basin of its upper and middle reaches is densely populated and there are many rural settlements on the river: Gornovoye, Khomutin, Krasnoyary, Taldinka, Gordeevka, Bolshaya Rechka, Troitskoye (regional center), Tyumen, Zavyalovo. The forest part of the river is almost not inhabited, in the middle of the boron on the river is the village of Listvyanka, and at its branching into the branches before the confluence with the Ob, the villages of Chauzovo and Volodarka.
Almost all villages above the upper and middle reaches of the Big River are connected by paved regional and local roads. The Barnaul - Biysk railway ( Bolshaya Rechka station ) crosses the river in the village of Troitskoye; the federal highway P256 Novosibirsk - the border with Mongolia ( Chuysky tract ) runs between the villages of Troitskoye and Bolshaya Rechka. In the forest part of the basin there are only dirt roads of low quality.
The river is not navigable. In the 1960s, the Directorate of Small Rivers of the Altai Territory made unsuccessful attempts to establish shipping with small-sitting tugboats in the lower reaches of the river. Below the village of Zagainovo (within the Verkhneobsky Bor) the river was used for rafting ; the lower course is littered with sunken trees.
Water system: Ob → Kara Sea .
