Greater Daphnia

Greater Daphnia [1] ( lat. Daphnia magna ) is a species of crustacean family of daphnids living in North America, Eurasia and Africa. The body is oval, transparent. Females up to 6 mm long, males up to about 2 mm long. A thermophilic animal that lives in reservoirs rich in nutrients. The filter, feeds on phyto- and bacterioplankton, can scrape fouling from the bottom. Recent studies have found that Daphnia magna can reduce the spore concentration of the chitridiomycete fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis [2] .
