Biography

Hiroo Amano was born on March 1, 1954 in the city of Mizunami , Gifu Prefecture [1] [2] . His father's work was related to agriculture, while his mother was a teacher in elementary school. Hiroo was the eldest of three children in the family and the only boy. At the age of six, he entered Ookute Elementary School, at 12 - at Kamado High School, at 15 - at the Tajimikita High School in Gifu Prefecture. In 1972, at the age of 18, he was enrolled in the Department of Sculpture at Tama University of Fine Arts. In March 1976, the herd final exams, and in the same year he submitted documents to the graduate school of the university, graduating in March 1978 [3] .

The first exhibition of the budding sculptor took place in 1976 from July 20 to August 31 at the sculpture symposium in the city of Sirotori. In 1978, Japan’s Tokyo Gallery hosted the first solo exhibition, entitled “Hiroo Amano Ceramic Sculpture. Call of the fiery demon from the depths of the sea ”, and in the fall of next year a collection of works“ Call of the fiery demon from the depths of the sea - Collection of works of ceramic sculpture Hiroo Amano ”was published in a private publishing house. In October 1979, he began work in a joint atrium at Kamitsuruma in Sagamihara . On November 4, he married Keiko Tanaka and moved to Sagamihara. On May 21, 1981, Hiroo Amano had a daughter, named Ayu. July 18, 1982, he first went abroad and traveled to America and Mexico with his wife on July 30. Hiroo Amano continued to travel a lot in subsequent years: in 1985 he visited the Maldives and India , where he returned again after two years. Also visited Italy and Nepal . In 1985, Hiroo Amano had a second daughter, named Aya. The following year, he won the Itsukushigahara Gallery Prize [4] , and in August moved to Kamitsuruma (Sagamihara). On November 22, the eldest son, Atora, was born. In the summer of 1995, the collection of works “Sculptural works of Hiroo Amano - MANDAEAGEI” was published. On February 28, 1997, Hiroo Amano moved to the Araisono area of ​​Sagamihara, where he currently resides. In the summer of 1999, he was responsible for creating mock-ups for computer graphics during the filming of Sea Aurora for Japanese television [5] . September 7, 2002 received a prize from the governor of Chiba Prefecture [6] .

The first exposition of Hiroo Amano took place in 1976 in the city of Sirotori at a sculpture symposium, and two years later his first solo exhibition opened. In February of the following year, the sculptor was especially noted at the "First Exhibition of Contemporary Japanese Sculpture - Activities Towards the 21st Century" at the Chiba Prefecture Museum of Art. In 1986 he received the award for the monumental work “Star-shaped coelacanth” shown at the 1st Rodin Exhibition in Itsukushigahara Gallery, and in November of the following year Hiroo Amano was again especially noted at the Insert of Modern Sculpture in Kobe . In 1988, for its monumental work, the Arched Structure won a silver prize at the Exhibition of Contemporary Japanese Sculpture 87 in the Toki Cultural Center. In 1899, with his work, "Fish-Cross" became the winner of the prize "Nakanoshima Sculpture Competition." In April 1992, he won a prize at the 1st Yoshi Kinouchi Open Air Sculpture Exhibition in Akogiagaura Park, and in November of that year, with his monumental work Elephant Mountain, he received a special award at the exhibition “Exciting Symphonies of the City - International Exhibition "Held in Ningboyama Park. In March 1993, he received an award at the open-air sculpture exhibition in the city of Tofu , in August-October he was again awarded a special award at the "3rd art exhibition" in the Makurazaki Cultural Center of Kagoshima Prefecture . The following year he was awarded the prize at the “8th exhibition of sculpture in Kobe” and the gold award at the “6th exhibition of modern Japanese ceramic sculpture 96. The 120th anniversary of the unification of Hada and Mino” for the monumental work “A completely round toad” . In October 1994, he won the main prize of the "2nd Exhibition of Utopian Ceramics 99" [4] [6] . Since April 2005, he has been a visiting professor at the University of Fine Arts in Tama City [3] .

According to Dominic Lombardi, a reviewer for d'Art International, surrealistic sculptures by Hiroo Amano “ delight and amaze any fan of science fiction ” [7] .
