Master of Sports of the USSR (1955). Silver medalist at the 1958 European and World Championships in the all-around. USSR champion in 1958, USSR record holder and unofficial world record holder (1960) at a distance of 10,000 meters. He played for Moscow - the sports societies Shakhtar and Spartak .
Biography
At the age of 6 months, as a result of a serious illness, he lost his right arm. [2]
Sports career
Vladimir Sergeevich was born in Veliky Ustyug, then he lived in Vladimir ; moved to Moscow to study at the institute. In Moscow, he came to the skating section, where he began to train with Galina Ivanovna Volkova. [3]
The first serious successes came to Shilykovsky in 1955 - he became the champion of Moscow, and then - the bronze medalist of the USSR championship at a distance of 5000 m, was included in the USSR national team (he was in 1955-1961). [2]
In 1956, Shilykovsky moved to Spartak to Ivan Anikanov , under whose leadership he managed to get rid of the labels of "unpromising" and "December athlete" (that is, an athlete who lacks strength for the whole season).
In 1958, at the European Championships in Eskilstuna, Shilykovsky was second behind Oleg Goncharenko , at the same time having outstripped him at both long distance runs (he lost only to Norwegian Knut Johannesen ). After the first day at the World Championships in Helsinki , Shilykovsky was leading in all-around, beating Goncharenko at both distances; and although Goncharenko stepped forward at the expense of a confident victory at a distance of 1500 meters, Shilykovsky was the clear favorite before the final “ten” - that year he ran better distance racers. The weather has confused all the maps: before the race with Shilykovsky’s participation, a thick fog descended to the stadium - despite the included spotlights there was almost nothing to see, it was difficult even to breathe - and immediately after the end of the race the fog cleared. As a result, Goncharenko won Shilykovsky 1.8 s at a distance of 10,000 meters and 0.2 points on the amount of all-around, which is equivalent to 4 s at a distance of 10,000 meters with). [four]
After leaving sport
He graduated from the Moscow Peat Institute (1955). Candidate of Technical Sciences (1969), author of 25 publications and inventions. [2] Worked at the Research Institute, where he dealt with the problem of mining from the seabed; taught. [3]
He died in 1987, was buried in Vostryakovskoye cemetery . [five]
