Pozdnov, Victor Andreevich

Victor Andreevich Pozdnov ^[1] was born on October 21, 1929 in the city of Borisoglebsk (now Voronezh Region). From childhood he loved to draw and dreamed of becoming an artist. His childhood passed during the years of World War II. Father fought at the front.

In 1946, Pozdnov entered the Penza Art College named after K. A. Savitsky . There he studied for three and a half years at the department of painting, then switched to sculpture. His painting teacher was the famous artist Goryushkin-Sorokopudov, who at one time was a student of Ilya Efimovich Repin, classes in sculpture were taught by a student of the great Rodin - Elena Dmitrievna Kazashvili.

Viktor Pozdnov, along with his classmates, visited the workshop of the wonderful artist Ivan Silovich Goryushkin-Sorokopudov . Students who came to him necessarily brought their sketches, because the opinion of a famous artist and teacher was very valuable for them. Ivan Silovich immediately drew attention to the work of Pozdnov, noting him as a capable and thinking student.

In his free time, Victor read a lot, played football in the local team. He loved football very much and always said that if he didn’t like painting, he would become a football player or sports doctor. In Penza, he meets his future wife, Raisa Petrovna Medunova, with whom he lived for many years.

After graduating from the Penza School in 1951 , Victor Pozdnov enters the Academy of Arts in Leningrad. But there was no money to continue his studies. From the wounds received in the war, the father dies, it was necessary to help the mother and foster sister. In 1952, together with Alexander Burzyantsev, with whom he studied at the Penza School, Pozdnov arrived in Ufa. Already in the 50s, the then still young artist immediately declared himself as a very bright and gifted painter. He participates in the All-Union Exhibition in Moscow and his paintings “The Ural Birch Forest” and “Rafts” attracted attention with an original, bold compositional solution. These works were immediately bought by museums. Possessing great talent and courage, Viktor Andreevich Pozdnov back in the era of socialist realism, when the activities of artists were regulated, boldly and freely interpreted images in his paintings, in which the spiritual connection of a person with the outside world prevailed.

In 1958, Pozdnov became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He receives fame and recognition after the appearance of the work “Old Ural Plant” written in 1959. The painting was successfully exhibited in Ufa in 1960, then in Moscow at the exhibition "Soviet Russia".

The artist finds time for social activities, in 1959 he becomes the youngest chairman of the Art Council at the Bashkir branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR and works in this position until 1966 . Member of the Board of the Bashkir Union of Artists since 1967.

In 1973, Viktor Pozdnov was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Bashkortostan.

Having become a great master of landscape, the artist increasingly turns to a thematic picture. Significant works on a historical theme appear. Drawing inspiration from the amazing nature of the Bashkir region, drawing on the experience of world art, he created his own painting, which has no analogues in either Russian or Western art. Power, great plasticity, greatness of images and rich coloristic gamut - that is what is characteristic of his work. The artist worked in various genres; painted thematic and genre paintings, portraits and still lifes.

The theme of the heroic history of the Bashkir cavalry division in the monumental-epic composition “Song of the Fathers” sounds like a legend and an epic.

Viktor Pozdnov died in October 11, 2010 . He lived a bright, eventful life and left behind an incredible collection of paintings and drawings and a galaxy of talented students (V. Lesin, T. Erastov, A. Romanov, Yu. Losch, A. Maslik, N. Fairushin, S. Erofeev , H. Ryazapova).

Victor Andreevich Pozdnov possessed extensive knowledge in the field of art criticism, was fluent in oratory.

His paintings are in famous museums in Russia and abroad in private collections in countries such as the UK , USA , Canada , Sweden , Japan , France , Switzerland , Germany , Portugal and others.

The artist’s daughter, Elena Pozdnova ^[2] , graduated from the Belarusian State Pedagogical Institute of Art and Graphics, also a talented artist.
