Biography

Born December 23, 1926 in Moscow; the birth date in many sources is indicated on January 26, 1926, - as the director himself said, the confusion in the dates began in 1942, during the evacuation in Sverdlovsk , when the 14-year-old turner refused to issue a work card [3] . According to the rules, the card could be obtained only at the age of 15, and the members of the factory medical commission who corrected the date of birth on January 26 helped the future director [3] .

In 1944-1945, Tsutsulkovsky studied at the Military Institute of Foreign Languages . After the war, in 1946-1950, he studied at the Faculty of Philology of Leningrad University , but in the end he chose a different profession and entered the directing department of the Ostrovsky Leningrad Theater Institute , which he graduated in 1958 [1] [3] .

In 1961-1969, Tsutsulkovsky worked as an assistant and then as a director under the direction of N. P. Akimov at the Leningrad Comedy Theater [3] .

In 1963, he made his television debut (as amended by the Literary and Dramatic Broadcasting) with the film “I am a Taxi Driver,” according to the script by V.V. Kunin with E. Z. Kopelyan in the title role [4] . But this film was so disliked by the party leadership (although the then editor-in-chief of the Literary Broadcasting, I. F. Maslennikov, considers it completely harmless [5] ) that, on the orders of the 1st Secretary of the Leningrad Regional Committee, V. Tolstikov, his copies were burned and even the negative was washed away [4] .

In 1970, Tsutsulkovsky began working at the Lentelefilm studio, staged television plays , and shot documentaries and feature films [1] ; television versions of theatrical productions, in particular, the play of the Comedy Theater “This Sweet Old House” directed by Pyotr Fomenko .

For many years, Lev Tsutsulkovsky taught at the St. Petersburg State University of Cinema and Television (Leningrad Institute of Film Engineers) [1] .

He died on September 16, 2016 .
