Biography
Sylvie George Vartanian was born on August 15, 1944 in Iskrets, Bulgaria. Her father, Georges Vartan, ( Armenian. Vartanyan 1912-1970) served as attache at the French Embassy. He had Armenian-French roots for his father, and his mother, Slavka, was a Bulgarian. Sylvie's mother, Ilona Mayer (Ilona Mayer 1914-2007) - the daughter of the famous architect Rudolf Mayer, was of Hungarian-Jewish descent.
At the age of 8, Sylvie moved from Bulgaria to France with her parents and brother Eddie.
Sylvie, not fluent in French, entered the Lyceum named after Victor Hugo, and then the Helene Boucher Lyceum.
In the spring of 1965, Sylvie Vartan married rock star Jean-Philippe Smet, known as Johnny Holliday . In 1966, they had a son, David-Michel Benjamin (known as David Holliday).
The first duet with Johnny Holliday “J'ai un problème” was recorded in 1973 in different languages and very soon received the status of “golden”. In November 1980, Sylvie and Johnny divorced. In 1983, Sylvie again married an American producer Tony Scotty. They adopted the Bulgarian girl Darina.
The most famous song Sylvie Vartan - "Nicolas", first performed in 1979.
Currently, Sylvie continues to record records, including songs for children, touring and acting in films. She lives in Los Angeles.
