Biography
Maxim Borisovich Atayants was born on October 1, 1966 in Ryazan in the family of a radiolocation specialist B.A. Atayants . My uncle is an aircraft designer S. A. Atayants .
In 1984 he entered and in 1995 graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts . In 1985−1986 he served in the Soviet Army.
Thesis - “Project of the Museum of the Navy in Kronstadt ” was the first graduation project in the faculty in the classical style in 30 years, and caused serious discussion during the defense. In 1996, this project participated in the exhibition Vision of Europe ( Bologna ), was published in its catalog.
In 1995, Maxim Atayants was trained at the Prince Charles Summer School of Architecture (Italy - France).
Since 1995, a member of the St. Petersburg branch of the Union of Architects of Russia .
In the late 1990s, he developed designs for private homes, private and corporate interiors.
In 1998 - 2000 he taught at the University of Rome Sapienza and in the Roman department of the University of Notre Dame .
In 2000, to carry out major urban development projects, he organized the "Maxim Atayants Architectural Studio" (AMMA).
In December 2006, he began working with the Urban Group, winning the company's internal competition to develop the concept of its first project in Ivanovo-Pokrovsky [1] . At the beginning of 2018, the Urban Group went bankrupt; at the end of August 2018, the results of the audit of the Urban Group conducted by EY , SRG and NEO Center were published on the website of the Fund for the Protection of Rights of Interest holders (House of the Russian Federation). In the report, Atayants, together with Alexander Dolgin and Andrey Puchkov, was called the founder of the group [2] . Despite the legal voidness of the term “founder”, Atayants refutes what was said in the audit report, stating that “he was never among the founders and founders of the Urban-Group and was in no way affiliated with it ... never worked inside the company, including and as the chief architect of the project. Between me as an individual entrepreneur and my workshop on the one hand, and the Urban Group on the other, there has always been a contractor and customer relationship. Another kind of relationship for an architect with a name and a developer is death ” [1] [3] . On September 12, 2018, the general director of Dom.RF Alexander Plutnik said about Atayants’s affiliation with the Urban Group: “We do not confirm it yet. I read his comment. We asked the auditors to clarify this, we will return with the WEF and will find out ” [4] . At the end of October 2018, Dom.RF and EY withdrew their claims against Atayants, confirming the correctness of his position and allowing further cooperation with the architect in the process of completing the facilities of the Urban Group. [5] [6] [7] [8]
As part of the study of preserved monuments of ancient architecture, begun in 1995, between 2004 and 2010 he traveled extensively in the Middle East and North Africa , exploring the architectural heritage of the Roman Empire .
As an architect, Atayants belongs to the direction of so-called neoclassicism , which rejects the modernist paradigm that has dominated world architecture since the beginning of the 20th century. Neoclassicist architects are convinced that modern architecture for various purposes can use the language of architectural classics dating back to antiquity up to the use of an order system and other techniques. At the same time, the created architectural structures will not be imitations of the buildings of the past or their copies, but the result of understanding and developing classical principles into the present. [9] Recognizing the individual creative successes and talents of modernist architects, neoclassicists criticize modernist architecture for its tendency to degenerate into anti-human and anti-aesthetic functionalism, as well as for a destructive approach to historical development. In addition to M. Atayants, neoclassicists include architects such as M. Filippov , M. Belov , D. Barkhin , Mikhail Tumarkin, Ilya Utkin , Peter Zavadovsky, Jose Cornelio da Silva , Pierre Carlo Bontempi , Ettore Maria Mazzola , Robert Stern , Robert Adam , Leon Crie, Quinlan Terry, Gabriele Tagliaventi .
Maxim Atayants married, father of two sons.
Works of M. Atayants
Graphics
As a graphic artist, M. Atayants is the author of a large number of works, performed mainly in the technique of drawing with a pen and brush. The genre of works is architectural landscapes, thematically covering:
