Edinburgh Festival

Royal Mile Performance

Edinburgh Festival is the common name for festival events held in Edinburgh every summer, usually in August. Despite the fact that the festivals are held by different organizations that are not related to each other, they are perceived by visitors as one event. Edinburgh Festival is the largest among such annual events.

The original, and currently the largest components of the festival are the Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh Fringe . Fringe, in turn, is the largest theater festival in the world.

History

Edinburgh International Festival dates back to 1947. It was established as part of post-war efforts to enhance the morale of the population [1] . And in the first year, eight theater organizations went beyond the official part, organizing additional performances that turned into Edinburgh Fringe [2] .

The International Festival and Fringe remain independent events with a different program. In recent years, many other festivals and cultural events have been added to them, organized by various organizations, but timed to the same time.
