Early years
Born in London in 1923, he was the only child in the family of Lieutenant General Sir Sydney Turing Lawford and May Eilen. At the time of his birth, both of his parents were each in a separate marriage: having issued divorces, they married only in 1924, when the boy was one year old. Due to family quarrels, his family soon moved to France , and then to the United States. The frequent change of residence was the reason that Peter never received a formal education. He was trained by governesses and specially hired home teachers. At the age of 14, Lawford received a serious hand injury, which ultimately determined his future: he had to abandon his military career, as his parents wanted, and eventually step on the acting path.
Career
Over the years, Lawford collaborated with the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio . He made his film debut at the age of seven in the film “Old Poor Bill” (1931). His first major work was the role in the 1942 film "Yankees at Eton", after which he was able to attract the attention of the public. This was followed by work in such films as “The White Cliffs of Dover” (1944), “ Portrait of Dorian Gray ” (1945) and “Son of Lessi” (1945). Together with Frank Sinatra, Lawford played one of the main roles in the 1947 musical "It Happened in Brooklyn."
His first work after breaking up with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was his role in the comedy “This Must Happen to You” (1954). In 1959, at the invitation of Sinatra, he became a full member of the famous Rat Flock team, and in 1960, along with its other participants, played in the crime comedy " Ocean's Eleven Friends ". Lawford co-produced a number of 1960s films. He also starred in the TV series: “ Alfred Hitchcock represents ”, “ My wife enchanted me ”, “ Boat of love ” and others.
Personal life
Lawford was married four times. His first wife was Patricia Kennedy (1954-1966), the sister of John F. Kennedy . The couple had four children. He was also married to Mary Rowan (1971-1975), Deborah Gould (1976-1977) and Patricia Seaton. The actor married the last in July 1984 - just a few months before his death.
