Emelyanov, Alexander Fedorovich

Aleksander Fedorovich Emelyanov (born June 15, 1936 ) - Soviet and Russian entomologist , Doctor of Biological Sciences , professor, chief researcher at the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences , one of the largest specialists in cicadic insects ( Auchenorrhyncha ), described more than 400 species new for science [2] .

  • 1953 - Started studies at Leningrad University [2] .
  • 1965 - PhD thesis "Static, food and zoogeographic relations of cicadas of Central Kazakhstan."
  • 1980 - doctoral dissertation “Nosatki (Homoptera, Dictyopharidae) of the fauna of the USSR and their evolution. Abstract of a doctoral dissertation. "

He took part in 38 expeditions and trips in many regions of the world, including Kazakhstan (1957, 1959-1962, 1969, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1986-1988), Astrakhan region (1961), Transbaikalia (1963), Altai (1964) and Tuva (1964), Uzbekistan (1965-1966, 1969, 1976, 1979), Kyrgyzstan (1966, 1979, 1981, 1986), Mongolia (1967-1968, 1970-1971, 1975, 1978), Yakutia (1974), Turkmenistan (1973, 1979, 1981, 1987), Tajikistan (1979, 1981, 1986), Armenia and Georgia (1984), Cuba (1986), Ethiopia (1990), Fr. Taiwan (1997), Australia (1997), Greece (1998), Bulgaria (2000-2001), Slovenia (2001), Germany (2002), South Africa (2005), USA (2005). During these years, he collected a large collection of insects stored in the funds of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences [2] .

Major works

Published over 160 scientific papers. He described more than 400 species of insects (cicadas) new to science, more than 100 new genera, 28 new tribes, and 4 new subfamilies [2] .
