Cane ( Latin Scolóchloa ) - a monotypic genus of plants of the family Cereals, or Bluegrass ( Poaceae ). Forms a monotypic subtribe Trostyankovye ( Scolochloínae ) in the tribe Myatlikovye ( Poeae ). Includes a single species: Shrovetide Upland ( Scolochloa festucácea ).

Title
The Latin name of the genus comes from other Greek. σκολος - thorn and χλόη - grass: due to the fact that the lower floral scales have 1-3 tips on the top [2] . The species epithet indicates the similarity of the plant to fescue ( Festuca ).
Botanical Description
A perennial herb that renews foliage annually. Geofit. In height reaches 90-180 cm, in addition, forms underground stolons . The upper surface of the sheet is rough. The length of the spikelet is greater than the length of the spikelet scales . Floral scales are divided into 1-3 spiny parts, smooth or slightly rough, at the base have a bundle of hairs 1-1.5 mm long. It blooms in June and July .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.
Range
It grows in Europe , the temperate regions of Asia and North America . The main habitats are swimming in stagnant or slowly flowing waters.
