Biography

The future professor Adolf Kheer was born and raised in the family of the sculptor Joseph Kheer from Förenbach in the Black Forest , in the independent Grand Duchy of Baden at that time. He was the third oldest out of 10 brothers and sisters, of whom 4 died in infancy. He received his first lessons from Joseph’s father and his uncle Karl Heer, who had their Brothers Heer work on creating sculptures. Their business was known outside Fehrenbach. In particular, they participated in the design of the church at the monastery of St. Peter [1] .

He continued to study sculpture at the School of Applied Arts in Nuremberg from about 1867 to 1871, and then, in Berlin, in the workshops of Rudolf Semering and Alexander Calandrelli , as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts (from about 1871 to 1873). He worked for 2 years in Dresden with Professor Brymann (1873-1875). From 1877 to 1880 he lived in Rome , where he continued his artistic education studying the great works of antiquity.

From 1881 he was a professor at the then-school of applied arts in Karlsruhe , which was his last place of activity until his death in 1898. His successor was Fridolin Dietzsche (Fridolin Dietsche) [2] .
