Biography
Osip Nazaruk was born on August 31, 1883 in Buchach in a furrier family. He studied at the Buchatsky and Zolochevsky gymnasiums. For the propaganda of socialism, he was expelled from the gymnasium with the prohibition to make up the matura (that is, to take the examination for the certificate of maturity) in Galicia .
He studied law at the University of Lviv , in 1908 he graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna. In 1904-05 he led the work of "Sich" (Ukrainian student organization in Vienna ). In 1906-07 - Chairman of the Lviv "Academic Gromady".
Member of the Board of the Ukrainian Radical Party in 1905-1919 .
In 1915 - 1918 - the head of the auxiliary cultural and propaganda division ("Press Apartment") of the OSS . Since October 1918 - a member of the Ukrainian National Council of ZUNR . In December 1918 - June 1919, he was the head of the Main Directorate of Press and Propaganda of the UNR Government.
As part of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen (OSS) was in the city of Kamenetz-Podolsk (July - October 1919). From June 1919 he supervised the work of the press apartment of the Ukrainian Galician Army . In mid-July 1919, as part of the UGA, he arrived in Kamenetz-Podolsky, entered the government of the Directorate , and at the same time edited the UGA newspaper Strelets . In August 1919 he made a scientific excursion in Bakot . The publisher "Sagittarius" published a book of Nazaruk "To Bakote. Impressions from a trip to the Ukrainian Pompeii. In Kamenetz-Podolsk began writing the story "Roksolyana."
In 1922 - 1926 he was in the United States , in 1923-26. edited the weekly Sich (Chicago), in 1926-27. - Editor of "America" (Philadelphia). Returning to Lviv , he became closer to the Ukrainian Christian Organization , and from January 1928 headed the editorial board of her newspaper Novaya Zarya.
After the Red Army entered the territory of Poland , fearing Soviet repressions , he left Lviv in Krakow, controlled by the Third Reich, where he died of a heart attack on March 31, 1940 [1] . He was buried at the Rakovitskiy cemetery (section XXXIV, western row, No. 25).
