Biography

The son of a school teacher, Friedrich Nobbe, was a teacher as early as 1846 at the age of 16. Thanks to self-study, he expanded his knowledge and in 1852 took control of a school in the mountains near Osnabruck. [1] He attended lectures in 1854-1859 in Jena and Berlin on the category of natural sciences, mainly studied the chemistry and physiology of plants. In 1861-1868 he was a professor at the Crafts School in Chemnitz . At this time, he undertook the publication of the very famous agrochemical journal Landwirthschaftliche Versuchstationen . Since 1863, a professor at the Taranda Forest and Agricultural Academy (near Dresden ). Through the agricultural society in Dresden, Nobbe founded a test station in Taranto for the physiological study of plants, and then, as a result of complaints so often repeated on the seed trade, opened the first seed control station in Germany. On the model of the latter, many such stations were founded in Germany, as well as in other states, partly in Russia. So, on the initiative and at the expense of the Free Economic Society since 1878, the Imperial Botanical Garden annually studied seeds, which were presented at the exhibition of the society.

In 1880, Nobbe became a knight of the Order of the North Star , and in 1882 he received the Order of Albrecht .

Works

  • "Handbuch der Samenkunde" (1876),
  • "Ueber die organische Leistung des Kalium in der Pflanze" (together with Schroeder and Erdman, St. Petersburg, 1870),
  • "Wider den Handel mit Waldgrassamen fd Wiesenkultur" (1878) and others.

Nobbe came up with a special device that was previously in great use at seed stations to test the quality of seeds, that is, their ability to germinate, purity from various impurities. This device is described in the Proceedings of the Free Economic Society (1874, vol. I, pp. 299-301).
