Biography

He served in Germany , participated in the siege of Danzig . In Spain, he received the rank of brigadier general for participating in the siege of Zaragoza . Then he commanded the engineers of the French Aragonese army of the famous Marshal Suchet , the most productive French unit in Spain, and as such made an important contribution to the capture of the fortresses of Tortosa , Tarragona and Valencia . For these services he was appointed division general in 1811 . Drafted into the Grand Army , he built the defensive fortifications of Dresden , in 1814 he led the engineering units in Metz .

In 1815 he was appointed a member of the military committee and commander of the engineering units of the Northern Army. He fought at Waterloo .

In 1826 he received the title of Viscount. An honorary member of the Academy of Sciences since 1829 , in 1831 , during the July monarchy , was appointed peer of France .

The great monograph by Bruno Colson of General Ronya, engineer and critic of Napoleon ( Fr. "Le général Rogniat, ingénieur et critique de Napoléon" ) is devoted to General Ronya. [1] [2]

Interesting fact.

After the restoration of the Bourbons, Ronya appeared in print with criticism of Napoleon and his army. Brigadier General Marseille de Marbo replied to them with "Critical remarks about the work of Lieutenant General Ronya", published in Paris in 1820. Marbo's response caused such admiration that in his will he left the general 100 thousand francs and instructed him to "write in defense of the glory of the French weapons and shame the slanderers and apostates." Subsequently, Marbo became the author of the famous memoirs about the wars of Napoleon [3] .
