Dear people of Paraguay , I, Vicente Ignacio Iturba, bring you good news. Today, May 15, 1811, we became a free country. There will be no more oppression by the Spanish crown, laws will be respected, there will be no injustice. We will rule our country ourselves. We will not suffer from extortion of the mother country or discrimination against local residents in the distribution of public positions. We will not be responsible for military service. And regarding the unfair restrictions in the economy, we are no longer obliged to detain our goods in the port, that is: you can choose the countries with which we will trade and earn income, this will be good for our people, and in this way we will grow.
Iturba was imprisoned for 15 years, and then was executed by order of France on May 27, 1837.
