Shohati Ishii was born in 1926 in Tokyo , graduated from Chuo University .
In 1952, Sohati Ishii at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in the final defeated the Soviet athlete Rashid Mamedbekov [1] . Thus, he became the first Japanese athlete to win the Olympic gold medal after World War II .
