Title

The etymology of the historical name is associated with the location of the village on the opposite side of the Tobol River with respect to the city of Kostanay. In the post-Soviet period of development of Kazakhstan, the country was mass renamed populated punts and other geographical objects, which aimed to eliminate foreign (mostly Russian) toponyms and replace them with Kazakh ones. The village of Zatobolsk (whose name has remained unchanged since the 19th century [6] , remained one of the few toponyms of modern Kazakhstan that retained their historical name in Russian spelling form. Akim of Kostanai region raised the issue of changing the status of the village of Zatobolsk to a city of regional significance and renaming it at the same time in Tobol (Kazakh spelling form of Tobol river names), March 18, 2018, the initiative was supported by the public Zatobolsk [7] . December 6, 2018, the initiative yla endorsed Republican onomastics commission and the issue was referred to the Government of Kazakhstan [8] . Will enter into force only after renaming the publication on the official website of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
