Shahbaz Gerai (Girey) ( Crimean Şahbaz Geray , شهباز كراى ; 1731 - 1793 ) - an aspirant to the throne of the Crimean Khanate in 1787 - 1789 , actually controlled only Budzhak , since Crimea was annexed by the Russian Empire in 1783, the third son of the Crimean Khan Arslan Geray ( 1748 - 1756 , 1767 ).

Biography
In 1748 he was appointed his father, the new Crimean Khan Arslan Geray, seraskir of the Edisan Horde ( 1748 - 1756 ). In 1758, Shahbaz Geray was appointed as his uncle, the Crimean Khan Kyrym Geray , the Seraskir of the Budzhyat Horde and Orbey (commandant of Perekop ). He stayed at these posts until 1764 . During the second reign of his father Arslan Geray in 1767, Shahbaz Geray was taken hostage to Istanbul . In the years 1769 - 1770, during the reign of his brother, the Crimean Khan Devlet IV Geray , Shahbaz Geray held the post of Kalgi Sultan . In the years 1775 - 1777, during the second reign of his older brother Devlet IV, Shahbaz Geray again held the post of Kalgi-Sultan . In 1777 - 1778, Shahbaz was a candidate for the Crimean khans from the Ottoman Empire . In 1787, the Ottoman sultan, who did not recognize the Russian annexation of Crimea, appointed Shahbaz Geray a Crimean Khan. In fact, only Bujak was under the rule of Shahbaz. Kalgoi Shahbaz Gerai appointed his younger brother Mubarek Gerai, and Nuresdin - Arslan Gerai, a descendant of the Crimean Khan Saadet Gerai. In 1787, Shahbaz Gerai arrived in Budzhak , then unsuccessfully fought against the Austrian and Russian troops in Moldova. In 1789, Shahbaz was removed from the throne. He died in the city of Wiese . One of his sons was Halim Gerai ( 1772 - 1823 ), a famous Turkish historian.
