Biography
He studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania , in 1861, MD. From 1863 to 1866, he participated in the American civil war as a military doctor, on his return to his homeland he was elected president of the entomological society. In 1889 he was elected Professor of Entomology at the University of Pennsylvania. Horn first studied intestinal cavities and bryozoans , but then he moved on to study beetles and soon became one of the best experts on beetles found in America. Horn's works on entomology are quite numerous. In these writings, he described 144 new genera and 1,493 new species of beetles found in North and Central America.
