Biography
He studied at the University of Bendigo ( Victoria ), was appointed Assistant for Zoology at the Royal Geographical Society, then Assistant at the Macleay Museum, Assistant for Zoology at the University of Sydney , Head of the Animal Production Department of the Sydney Museum of Technology, State Entomologist for the Department of Agriculture in New South Wales . Frogatt repeatedly traveled to different parts of Australia in order to study the fauna of little-known areas. Froggat’s work deals mainly with the biology of Australian insects (especially Coccoidea ), and in this area he is considered the first specialist. For more than 40 years he was a member of the Board of the Linnean Society of New South Wales ( Linnean Society of New South Wales ) and its president in 1911-1913 [1] .
Proceedings
Published over 300 scientific articles [1] . Froggat's published works appeared in Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales, Royal Society of South Australia, and Agricultural Gazette of NSW. Of these, the most important: “Gall making Coccids of Australia (Brachyscelinae)” in “Proc. LS "(I — V); “Australian Termitidae (White Ants) monograph” (3 parts, ibid.); "Australian Psyllidae. Monograph ”(ibid.),“ A Catalog of Described Hymenoptera of Australia ”(ibid.); "Honey ants" (in the composition of "Horn Expedition. Zoology").
In honor of Froggat, dozens of new insect species were named, including the Clivina froggatti beetle, the Froggattella ants, Adlerzia froggatti and Liomyrmex froggatti , and the Edwardsiana froggatti cicadas .
