The mini-series was successful both in terms of the audience rating, and according to critics [1] . The mini-series was watched by 14 million viewers, which made it the most viewed program with a script in the entire history of cable television [2] . At the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards, the series was nominated for this award in 16 different categories [3] [4] .

The mini-series received 16 Emmy nominations in 2012, more than any other program on the History channel in previous years [3] . He was nominated in the categories “Best Miniseries or Film”, twice in the categories “ Best Actor in a Miniseries or Film ” ( Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton ), “ Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Film ” ( Mayor Winningham ), “The best supporting actor in a mini-series or film ” ( Tom Berenger ), as well as in categories for best direction, a script of a mini-series and in nine other technical nominations [4] .
