History
Established by decree of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly on February 3, 2012, to the 70th anniversary of the birth of Kim Jong Il [1] . The document notes that this award will be given to officials, laborers, military units, government agencies and various organizations, "particularly distinguished themselves in the implementation of the revolutionary course of the country, the construction of a powerful and prosperous power" [2] .
At the same time, the Kim Jong Il Prize was established, intended for those who "made a great contribution to the development of science, education, health, literature, art, media and sports." By analogy with the Kim Il Sung Prize, it will also be the highest prize of the DPRK. In addition, youth with a children's award named after Kim Jong Il was also established.
The Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of February 9, 2012 awarded the order to 132 officials.
