Biography
He studied medicine in Bonn , since 1887 - in Heidelberg , where he soon completely indulged in the study of zoology. In 1891 he received a doctorate in philosophy, from 1893 he lectured as a private assistant professor, in 1897 he was appointed extraordinary professor of zoology. Scientific research concerned mainly the embryonic development of mollusks, the finest structure of protoplasm, cytology and spermatogonia. Suddenly died of pneumonia.
Erlanger's colleague Robert Lauternborn named after the scientist in 1898 the species of ciliates Mycterothrix erlangeri .
