Biography
Born in 1847 in a small town of (now: in the Kosice region of Slovakia ). He studied medicine in Vienna , in 1872, MD.
From 1873 to 1874, an assistant at the zoological department of the Hungarian National Museum , from 1875 to 1879 was engaged in medical practice, in 1880 he was appointed manager of the state entomological station, which he modeled on the American one.
Since 1896, director of the zoological department of the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest . Horvath traveled to southern France to study the phylloxera issue and, at the invitation of the Ministry of Agriculture and State Property, visited Bessarabia and Transcaucasia as an expert in 1893 and studied the fauna of the regions he visited.
The main subject of study of Horvat were harmful and other, and in particular - hemiptera insects. Numerous his works are mostly placed in publications of the Hungarian museum ( Természetrajzi Füzetek ) and in the Revue d'Entomologie .
