Shauman's grave in Porvoo

After his act, Shauman became a national hero of Finland , a memorial plaque appeared on the scene of the assassination in the corridor of the Senate of Finland , stating that he “gave his life for his country”, and the grave of Shauman in Porvoo became a holy place for many Finns. However, Finland has repeatedly discussed the issue of who should be considered Shauman - a national hero or a terrorist.

Biography

He came from a family of Finnish Swedes . The son of the head of the Vazas province , then Senator of the Finnish Senate, general , then Senator of the Finnish Senate, Lieutenant General , renamed Privy Councilor in 1899, Fyodor Oskarovich (Fredrik Waldemar) Shauman , who retired in 1900.

Shauman, a former employee in the Finnish Senate, and later an official of the main department of educational institutions in Finland, decided to kill the governor-general, who provoked hatred of the Finnish public with his crackdown policy. On June 16, 1904, Shauman kept watch in the building of the Senate Bobrikov, who was on his way to the meeting, and shot him three times from Browning , mortally wounding (“one bullet hit the neck safely, another shell shock, hitting the order , the third to the stomach” [2] ) . Shauman himself shot himself immediately after the assassination attempt.
