Biography

Friedrich Tidemann was born on August 23, 1781 in the city of Kassel . Since 1797 he studied medicine and natural sciences at the University of Marburg . After graduating from the latter, he was engaged in practical work in the hospitals of Bamberg and Würzburg, and since 1804 he began to give lectures in alma mater.

In 1805, Tidemann moved to the University of Würzburg , where he specifically studied the nervous system.

In 1806 he was appointed professor of zoology and anatomy of the then still Bavarian University of Landsgut, and in 1816 - professor of anatomy at the University of Heidelberg .

Together with Treviranus, Tidemann published the journal Zeitschrift für Physiologie (Darmstadt and Heidelberg) from 1824 to 1835.

In 1833 he became an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences [4] .

In 1849, Tidemann resigned and lived in Frankfurt am Main , and then in Munich .

His work on the anatomy of both vertebrates and humans, as well as invertebrates, is very famous, and some of them are rightly called classical. His textbook of zoology (Zoologie zu Fr. T.'i Vorlesungen, Landsgut and Heidelberg, 1808 and 1810), which remains incomplete, contains an excellent description of the anatomy of birds .
