Biography
He was brought up at Arnstadt school. He studied painting at the Nuremberg Academy of Arts and in Copenhagen (1726–28). In his free time he was engaged in observations of insect life, resulting in several works, the most important of which was: “Monatlich herausgeg. Insectenbelustigungen ”(1746, 1749, 1755, 1761), which, together with the works of Reaumur , Frisch and C. de Geer , served as the basis for the study of insect biology. His Historia naturalis ranarum nostratium (1758) is also known.
He described the amoeba , calling it a proteome , and spoke in detail about the amoeboid movement [1] .
In honor of the scientist are named:
- Roeseliana - a genus of true grasshoppers
- Roeseliana roeselii - view of grasshoppers in Rezel's leap
- Dytiscus roeselii - species of swimming beetles
- Carinogammarus roeselii (Gervais, 1835) - crustacean species
- Stentor roeselii - view of trumpeter ciliates
