Biography

He studied medicine in Paris and received a scholarship, as he had a disability (during the war he lost his right eye). He spent 3 years at the medical faculty. However, because of his state of health and unhappy love, he interrupted his studies and went on an expedition to Nicolas Boden to the South Sea. Peron accompanied Nicolas Boden (1754-1803) in 1801 during his expedition to measure the Australian coast. Together with Charles Alexander Lesiuer (1778-1846) he was engaged in the natural science work of the expedition. Together, they documented more than 100,000 zoological species, including 2,500 unknown to science, thereby making a significant contribution to the study of the Australian fauna and making the Boden expedition a success. Returning to France, he began work with Lesiuer on the essay Voyage de découvertes aux terres Australes, in which he did not mention the head of the expedition Nicolas Boden. The first volume was published in 1807. Peron died of tuberculosis in 1810 before the second volume was published.

On October 14, 1805, Peron became a corresponding member of the Institute of Anatomy and the Department of Zoology. He also worked on the publication Mémoire sur les éstablissements anglais à la Nouvelle Hollande.
